Before You Start

Ensure you have a flat, protected surface to assemble the unit to prevent scratching the solid wood finish. Verify all components and hardware against the list below.

Parts Checklist

  • A: Top Panel (1)
  • B: Base Panel (1)
  • C: Horizontal Shelves (1)
  • D: Vertical Spacers (1)
  • E: Side Panels (2)

Required Tools

  • #2 Phillips Screwdriver (Manual preferred for CAM hardware)
  • Allen Wrench (Included in hardware kit)

Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation

Step 1: Internal Framework Assembly

Begin by selecting your horizontal shelf and laying it on a flat, protected surface. Slide the vertical spacer into the central slot of the horizontal shelf to form the core. For the base and top, screw the cam bolts and insert the wooden dowels into the pre-drilled holes. We recommend hand-tightening these bolts to avoid stripping the solid wood fibers.

Step 2: Main Body Construction

Fit the cube base onto the vertical spacer, ensuring the dowels and bolts align perfectly. Insert the cam locks into the pre-drilled holes in the spacer and tighten them clockwise with a Phillips screwdriver until they are snug and secure. Once the top is attached using the same method, insert wooden dowels into the remaining center holes across the frame to prepare for the side panels.

Step 3: Side Panel & Barrel Bolt Tightening

Position the side panel with the John Louis Home logo facing the cube top and fit it onto the horizontal spacers. Insert the barrel nuts into the base, spacer, and top, then thread the barrel bolts through the side panel. Use the included Allen wrench to tighten the bolts in a clockwise rotation. If a bolt isn't catching, check that the slot on the barrel nut is perfectly aligned with the bolt entry hole.

Step 4: Safety, Finishing & Stacking

For a furniture-grade look, insert bolt caps into exposed holes and place finish stickers over the interior cam locks. If you are stacking units, secure the L-brackets at the back corners, always drilling pilot holes first to prevent the wood from splitting. Finally, install the anti-tip hardware by marking your wall stud, securing the bracket, and tightening the zip-tie for a child-safe, rock-solid mount.

Versatile Scaling: Choosing Your Cube Configuration

If you're reviewing these assembly steps before finalizing your layout, you're practicing smart design. The true power of our cube organizers lies in their modular nature. By selecting from our various size options—including 4-cube, 4-cube tall, and 9-cube units — you can create a versatile, custom storage solution that perfectly fits your specific wall dimensions or floor plan.

How will you combine your units? Because our systems are crafted from 100% solid wood, they provide the structural integrity required for stacking and side-by-side integration. You might lead with a 4-cube base for heavy items and top it with a 4-cube tall unit for accessories, creating a "stepped" look that mimics high-end built-in furniture. This modular approach ensures that as your storage needs evolve, your system can grow right along with you.
