Professional Insight: While these racks are excellent standalone pieces, we frequently see homeowners integrating them with our Solid Wood Cube Organizers to create a complete "mudroom" or closet solution. The racks handle high-traffic items like shoes, while the cubes manage bulkier storage. Because both systems utilize the same premium finish and wood species, they blend seamlessly. To see how a cube system might complete your project, click below to view the assembly guide.

Before You Start

Ensure you have a flat, protected surface to assemble the unit to prevent scratching the solid wood finish. Verify all components and hardware against the list below.

Parts Checklist

  • A: Side Panels (2)
  • B: Rack Shelves (2)
  • C: Barrel Bolts (8)
  • D: Metal Pins (4)
  • E: Bolt Caps (Optional)

Required Tools

  • Allen Wrench (Included in hardware kit)

Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation

Step 1: Shelf Orientation & Alignment

Lay out your panels on a flat, protected surface. Take both rack shelves and align them with the side slots. Critical Check: Look at the shelf construction and ensure the underside cross rail is facing the bottom. This orientation is vital as it provides the necessary structural support for heavier items like boots or storage bins.

Step 2: Securing the First Side

Insert the barrel bolts through the side panel holes and into the shelf inserts. Using the provided Allen wrench, tighten the bolts in a clockwise rotation. Do not fully torque them down just yet—keep them snug to allow for slight adjustments during the next phase. Repeat this process for the second shelf, attaching it to the same side panel.

Step 3: Closing the Frame

Align the second side panel with the open ends of the shelves. Once positioned, thread the remaining barrel bolts through the side panel and into the shelves. Now, go back and fully tighten all four connections with the Allen wrench. This ensures the unit is square, rigid, and ready to bear weight.

Step 4: Finishing & Stacking Options

For a clean, professional finish, press the bolt caps into the exposed bolt heads. If you are placing this on the floor, insert the metal pins into the bottom holes to raise the wood off the ground. If you are stacking units, insert these pins into the top of the base unit instead. Lower the second unit onto them, ensuring the pins fit securely into the corresponding holes for a safe, vertical stack.

Beyond Shoes: Designing with Stackable Storage

If you're using this guide to plan your layout, you've likely realized these aren't just for footwear. The true versatility of our stackable racks lies in their ability to reclaim vertical space in any room. By stacking units two or three high, you create a tower that rivals custom cabinetry—perfect for organizing pantry goods, folded linens, or entryway clutter.

How high should you go? Because our racks are crafted from 100% solid wood, they possess the structural integrity required for multi-level stacking that composite materials simply can't match. You can create a low-profile bench run under a window or stack them vertically to utilize narrow wall segments. This modular approach allows your storage to evolve, giving you a high-end, built-in aesthetic that adapts to your changing needs.
