Professional Insight: We often see homeowners pair these cube units with our stackable shelving racks to handle "dead space" that usually goes to waste in a room. Since both are built from the same 100% solid wood, the grains and finish match perfectly, so it doesn't look like a mismatched add-on. Whether you're trying to get shoes off the floor or find a home for extra linens, combining these units gives you a custom-built look without the custom-built price tag. Before You Start

Ensure you have a flat, protected surface to assemble the unit to prevent scratching the solid wood finish. Verify all components and hardware against the list below.

Parts Checklist

  • A: Top Panel (1)
  • B: Base Panel (1)
  • C: Horizontal Shelves (2)
  • D: Vertical Spacers (2)
  • E: Side Panels (2)

Required Tools

  • #2 Phillips Screwdriver (Manual preferred for CAM hardware)
  • Allen Wrench (Included in hardware kit)

Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation

Step 1: The 3x3 Grid Assembly

Begin by aligning your two horizontal shelves (C) and ensure the barrel nut holes are facing the same direction. Slide the two vertical spacers (D) into the slots on both horizontal shelves to form your 3x3 internal grid frame. For the base and top panels, screw the cam bolts and insert the wooden dowels into the pre-drilled holes. Hand-tightening is recommended to maintain the integrity of the solid wood fibers.

Step 2: Attaching the Top & Bottom

Fit the cube base onto the vertical spacers, ensuring the dowels and bolts seat fully. Insert the cam locks into the pre-drilled holes in the spacers and tighten them clockwise with a Phillips screwdriver until they are firmly snug. Repeat this exact method to attach the cube top panel. Once locked, insert wooden dowels into the remaining center holes on the horizontal spacers across the frame edges.

Step 3: Side Panel and Barrel Bolt Tightening

Position the side panel with the John Louis Home logo facing the top of the unit. Fit the panel onto the frame edges, ensuring it seats against the wooden dowels. Insert barrel nuts into the base, spacers, and top, then thread the barrel bolts through the side panel. Tighten using the Allen wrench in a clockwise rotation. If a bolt won't catch, use a flathead screwdriver to align the barrel nut's slot with the bolt entry hole.

Step 4: Safety, Aesthetics & Stacking

For a furniture-grade finish, insert bolt caps into exposed holes and place stickers over the interior cam locks. If you are stacking units, secure the L-brackets at the back corners, always drilling pilot holes first to prevent splitting the wood. Finally, install the anti-tip hardware by marking the wall, securing the wall bracket (using anchors if necessary), and tightening the zip-tie to lock the unit securely.
