Every shelf, rail, and curved angle bracket in our pantry kits are crafted from 100% solid wood. We never use particle board, MDF, or paper-wrapped composites that swell or degrade when exposed to kitchen humidity. All shelves are sealed with a multi-coat, water-based finish that contains zero VOCs, making them completely odorless and food-safe. Our pantry kits are available in five finishes: Honey Maple, Red Mahogany, Espresso, Chestnut, and White.

When anchored directly into wall studs our shelving holds 25 lbs per linear foot.

• A 4-foot shelf holds up to 100 lbs
• A 6-foot shelf holds up to 150 lbs
• An 8-foot continuous back wall run holds up to 200 lbs

This weight capacity easily supports kitchen appliances and grocery items without center sagging.

All of our kitchen pantry kits feature a 16-inch shelf depth (with 14 inches of flat slat bed surface). We standardized on 16 inches because smaller sizes leave items hanging over the front rail. A 16-inch depth gives you full support for countertop appliances, deep cereal boxes, and multi-pack grocery bins.

Yes. Every kitchen pantry kit includes custom-fit clear acrylic shelf liners for every shelf in the box. The liners drop directly into the recessed bed between the front and rear wood rails. They give small jars, bottles, and containers a completely flat surface so they never wobble or tip over between the slats, while protecting the wood finish from  rings and drips.

The three configurations match different room layouts and doorway placements:

• Reach-In Pantry Kits: Designed for single flat walls or shallow kitchen pantry closets with wide bi-fold, sliding or double doors (4-foot to 6-foot straight runs).
• L-Shaped Walk-In Kits: Wrap two adjacent walls to make the most of a corner while keeping the center and opposite wall open.
• U-Shaped Walk-In Kits: Wrap three continuous walls in solid wood shelving, creating a high-capacity pantry where food and appliances are staged around you in a 360-degree layout.

Our reach-in pantry shelf kits are designed for straight wall runs between 4 feet and 6 feet wide. Because every wood shelf can be cut to length on-site, a 6-foot shelf kit can easily be trimmed down to fit a 54-inch or 62-inch reach-in closet with zero wasted inches.

We offer three distinct L-shaped sizes to match standard corner walk-in pantries:

• Compact L-Shaped Kit: Fits pantries from 4 ft. x 4 ft. to 4 ft. x 5 ft.
• Standard L-Shaped Kit: Fits pantries from 4 ft. x 5 ft. to 6 ft. x 7 ft.
• Large L-Shaped Kit: Fits pantries from 6 ft. x 7 ft. to 6 ft. x 9 ft. (features an 8-foot back wall run paired with a 6-foot side wall run)

Our 3-wall wrap-around kits are built for square and rectangular walk-in rooms:

• Compact U-Shaped Kit: Fits walk-ins from 5 ft. x 5 ft. to 5 ft. x 6 ft. (6ft back wall trimmed to fit, with two 4ft side walls)
• Standard Full U-Shaped Kit: Fits walk-ins from 5 ft. x 6 ft. to 6 ft. x 7 ft. (Three full 6ft wall runs)
• Large Butler’s U-Shaped Kit: Fits walk-ins from 6 ft. x 8 ft. or larger (Features an 8-foot back wall run paired with two 6-foot side wall runs)

Because our kits use 16-inch deep shelves on both side walls (taking up 32 inches of total room width):

• In a 5-foot wide room (60 inches), you have roughly 28 inches of clear walkway down the middle.
• In a 6-foot wide room (72 inches), you have roughly 40 inches of open floor space.
• In an 8-foot wide butler's pantry (96 inches), you have over 5 feet (64 inches) of open center aisle space.

• Choose 4 Shelves: If you store bulky countertop appliances (bread machines, stand mixers, pressure cookers, tall stockpots) or oversized cereal boxes. Four tiers across an wall leaves generous 13 to 14-inch gaps between shelves so you can lift items in and out without hitting other shelves.
• Choose 5 Shelves: If your pantry is packed with standard grocery items like canned goods, jarred sauces, pasta boxes, and spices. Five tiers reduce wasted vertical headroom, allowing you to space the top four tiers 10 to 12 inches apart so you can organize food in neat, single-depth rows without stacking cans three-high.

Always install your back wall first because it anchors the side wall shelves and establishes your continuous level line. Once the back shelf run is leveled and installed, your side shelves butt directly against the front rail of the back shelf. Using our included metal shelf end brackets to connect them.

Yes. You can cut the shelves to your exact wall measurements using an ordinary fine-tooth hand saw or a power miter saw. The included clear acrylic liners cut just as easily using standard household scissors. Every kit includes metal shelf end brackets that cap the cut wood ends for a clean, finished appearance.

Kitchen pantries hold far more concentrated weight than clothes closets. Top-rail hanging shelf systems hang all that weight from a single track attached to the upper drywall, which often pulls forward, flexes, or bows over time. By using individual wood angle brackets and metal L-clips anchored straight into the home’s framing on every shelf, weight transfers directly into your wall studs for permanent stability.

No. Every John Louis Home pantry kit is 100% wall-hung. Because there are no floor posts or support legs resting on the ground, your entire floor remains completely open. This leaves full clearance for large dog food bins, floor baskets, recycling containers, or step stools.

The clear acrylic liners stop most spills before they touch the wood. If honey or oil drips, simply lift the acrylic liner out of the shelf bed and wash it with warm water and dish soap in the kitchen sink. If something splashes directly onto the wood, wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Because our factory finish is fully sealed, spills will not soak into the grain or leave a permanent mark.
