Professional Insight: While this bench is a stunning standalone piece for seating and shoe storage, many of our customers transform it into a complete "drop zone" by adding our Solid Wood Hall Tree Backing. The backing attaches directly to the bench, providing heavy-duty hooks for coats and bags without increasing the floor footprint. It uses the same wood species for a unified look. Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation
Step 1: Base Framework & Side Alignment
Position the bottom base panel on a flat, protected surface. Align one side panel against the base, ensuring the pre-cut grooves on both pieces line up perfectly to form a continuous track for the back panel. Insert the barrel nuts into the base holes and thread the barrel bolts through the side panel. Use your Allen wrench to tighten these clockwise, repeating the process for the opposite side panel.
Step 2: Back Panel & Vertical Dividers
Before adding the top, slide the back panel down into the aligned grooves you just secured. Next, insert wooden dowels into the pre-drilled holes along the base. Place the vertical spacers onto these dowels. Critical Check: Look closely at the spacers—ensure the notch at the top of each spacer is facing the back panel. This clearance is required for the top to fit correctly.
Step 3: Securing the Bench Top
Insert the remaining wooden dowels into the tops of the vertical spacers. Lower the bench top onto the assembly, ensuring it seats firmly onto the dowels and the back panel fits into the top groove. Secure the top by inserting barrel nuts into the side panels and threading the bolts through, tightening until the unit is solid and square.
Step 4: Center Support & Shelf Inserts
For maximum weight capacity, you must install the bottom support. Flip the unit gently or access the underside to secure the center support leg using the provided 1-inch screws. Once upright, slide your shelf inserts between the spacers to create your shoe cubbies. These slide freely to allow for different shoe heights.
Step 5: Cushion & Final Touches
Place the bench cushion on top of the unit; it is sized to fit snugly within the side rails. Finally, press the bolt caps into any exposed hardware holes on the sides. This small detail hides the metal bolt heads and gives your bench a polished, furniture-grade finish.
