Before You Start

To achieve clean, professional edges on your solid wood shelving, use a powered miter saw (chop saw) or table saw equipped with a 60-80 tooth fine-finish blade. Before making any cut, always verify your dimensions multiple times — this prevents mistakes, waste and ensures a seamless fit.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation

Step 1: Mounting L-Clip Hardware

Measure your space and cut the shelf if necessary. When marking your height, we always recommend using a long level to draw your reference line—don't trust that your floor is perfectly straight. Space your 4 L-clips equidistant within the shelf span to ensure even weight distribution. Secure them using the #8 1 1/2 in. screws.

Pro Tip: If you aren't hitting a stud, don't skip the wall anchors; they are essential for keeping the clips from pulling loose under a full load.

Step 2: Mounting Shelf Ends

To Side Walls: Position your template to accurately mark the 12in. or 16in. depth. We find it best to double-check that your marks are level with your back L-clips before drilling to ensure a perfectly flat shelf. Secure the shelf end firmly using the #8 1 1/2 in. screws.

To Tower Sides: Align the template with your adjacent wall line to keep the system flush. Since you are mounting directly into the tower side, be sure to use the shorter #6 3/4 in. screws; this secures the hardware properly without piercing through the finished side of the wood.

Step 3: Attaching the Shelf

Place the shelf onto the mounted hardware, ensuring it sits flush against the back wall and side supports. We recommend a quick "test fit" here to make sure everything is square before you begin fastening. Once aligned, secure the shelf using #4 3/4 in. screws at every hardware location; this creates a rigid, stable connection that prevents the shelf from shifting or rattling over time.

Step 4: Angle Bracket Installation

For best structural support, position the angle bracket flush against the back wall and tucked tightly under the front shelf rail. We find that marking your pilot hole while applying slight upward pressure on the rail ensures the most level result. If you aren't hitting a stud, install a wall anchor first; then, secure the bracket with a #8 3 in. screw to pull the system tight to the wall. To complete the look, simply press the mushroom cap into place for a clean, concealed finish.

Alternative: Free-Hanging Installation

For shelves not attached to side walls: Start by placing your shelf onto the L-clip hardware and setting a level across the top. Position the angle bracket flush against the wall and tucked under the front rail. To ensure a professional finish, level the shelf front-to-back. If there is a wall stud present you can secure the bracket with a #8 3 in. screw

If no stud is present, drive a #8 3 in. screw through the bracket just deep enough to mark the wall, then set the bracket aside and install a wall anchor. Replace the bracket and secure to the wall with a a #8 3 in. screw.

Pro tip: To make alignment easier, insert the screw tip into the anchor first, then rotate the bracket into its final upright position. Drive the #8 3 in. screw home to lock the bracket in place, then repeat this process on the opposite side for a rock-solid, free-hanging mount.
