When you start your installation, the most important step isn't the cutting—it’s finding your high point. Many closet floors and ceilings aren't perfectly level. I always recommend using a 4ft. level to mark your top shelf line (usually at 84 inches) across the entire back wall first. If you get that first shelf perfectly level, the tower and the rest of the Satin Nickel hardware will fall into place much easier, ensuring your Shaker drawers glide perfectly without any "drift."

A.Our standard kits cover 10ft, but you can stretch them to 12 feet. At 12ft, you're using the wood at its full length, which leaves the tower with two 24-inch shelves. For anything wider, we suggest adding more shelving.

Q.What if my closet is under 6 feet wide?

A. For small closets, you can "split" the kit. Use the tower on one wall and the extra shelving on another. It’s a great way to get maximum storage out of a tiny footprint.

Q.Is this real wood or a veneer?

A.This is 100% solid kiln-dried wood. We do not use MDF, particle board, or wood-grain Veneer.

Q.Do I need to hire a pro to install this?

A.We designed this for the Discerning DIYer. If you’re comfortable with a drill, a level, and a saw, you can get a high-end result. The parts are modular, which takes the guesswork out of the assembly.

Q.What specific tools do I need for a professional-grade finish?

A.You will need a tape measure, level, screwdriver, and power drill. For precision cuts, we highly recommend a power miter saw with a fine-toothed blade to ensure the wood and metal garment bars have clean, burr-free edges.

Q.How high should I mount the top shelf?

A.A professional standard is 84 inches. This height allows for a "double-hang" setup—where you place a second bar at 48 inches—effectively doubling the amount of clothes you can hang in the same space. A professional standard for long hang is 72 inches.

Q.What are the exact dimensions of the tower?

A.The tower measures 72.7" high and 26.25" wide on the outside. The interior space is exactly 24 inches wide, which is our standard fit for all modular drawers and adjustable shelving.

Q.Are the Drawer Glides slow-close?

A.Yes. All John Louis Home drawers feature full-extension ball-bearing glides with a slow-close feature for smooth, quiet operation.

Q.How far below the shelf does the garment bar sit?

A.The bar is exactly 2 inches below the shelf. We’ve found this is the perfect distance to let hangers slide on and off easily while keeping a clean, integrated look.

Q.How much clearance is there from the Garment Bar to the back wall?

A.The Garment Bar sits 10.25in. from the back wall. This allows clearance for any standard hanger.

Q.How much weight can this system really hold?

A.When you anchor it into your wall studs, the system is rated to support up to 1,200 lbs. This high capacity comes from combining the natural strength of solid wood with our heavy-duty steel hardware.

Q.Is the finish safe for a bedroom?

A.Yes. We use water-based, zero-VOC stains. Since closets are small, enclosed spaces, using non-toxic finishes is vital to ensure there’s no chemical smell or "off-gassing" near your clothes or sleeping area.
