Guide: Adding Drawers to Your Closet Organizer Guide: Adding Doors to Your Closet OrganizerBefore You Start
This is a cut-to-fit system. Because every closet is slightly different, you'll be customizing the 12-inch or 16-inch shelves to fit your exact wall-to-wall measurements. Ensure you have measured your space accurately before making any cuts.
Required Tools
- Tape Measure & Pencil
- Level & Stud Finder
- Powered Drill (1/8" and 1/4" bits)
- Saw (Table or Chop saw for wood; Hack saw for metal bars)
- Phillips Screwdriver
Step-by-Step Walkthrough Installation
Step 1: Mark Your Measurements
We’re going to map out where the shelves will sit. Use your level to mark three main heights from the floor. Once the lines are drawn, use a stud finder to mark every stud along those lines—this is where the strength comes from
- 84 inches: Top Shelf location
- 72 inches: Long Hang Shelf location
- 42 inches: Lower Hang Shelf location
Step 2: Tower Assembly
Assemble the tower on the floor before mounting. It’s much easier!
- Lay tower sides down with grooves up and insert cam bolts.
- Connect the tower bottom shelf and secure by turning cam nuts clockwise.
- Attach the tower top shelf (26.25 in.) using barrel nuts and bolts.
- Important: Install the Tower Stabilizer Bar to keep sides parallel.
Step 3: Mounting Hardware
Time to get the hardware on the wall. Install L-clips along your level lines. Ensure at least one L-clip is secured into a wall stud for each shelf span.
- 4-5 L-clips per 6ft shelf span.
- 3-4 L-clips per 4ft shelf span.
Step 4: Installing Tower & Top Shelf
- Place your top shelf onto hardware.
- Place tower onto hardware. Level & align tower and shelf.
- Plumb tower, mark hardware locations and install. Make sure it's perfectly vertical before marking your hardware locations
Step 5: Cutting & Installing Shelves
Measure the distance between your tower and the side walls. Always measure twice before cutting. Closet walls are rarely perfectly square, so measure the distance at the front and the back of where the shelf will sit to determine width.
- Cut shelves to size using a fine-tooth saw blade to prevent splintering.
- Attach shelf end hardware using the provided template for your specific depth (12in. or 16in.).
- Slide the shelf into the end hardware and secure it to the L-clips adn shelf ends using #4 3/4" screws.
Step 6: Cutting & Installing Garment Bars
Let's get those hanging bars ready. You want these to be a snug fit, but with enough room for the end caps.
- Measure and cut metal bars 1/2 inch shorter than the shelf width using a hacksaw.
- Insert bar ends into the ends of the garment bar.
- Attach J-hooks to the angle brackets (pre-drill with 1/8" bit).
- Install the angle brackets under the shelves at each end location with 3 inch screw.
- Place the bar onto the J-hooks and secure with self-tapping screws.
Step 7: Final Touches & Aesthetic Details
Finish your installation for a professional look.
- Hardware Caps: Insert mushroom caps into all angle brackets and barrel nut holes.
- Touch-Ups: Use the included stain pen to hide any cut wood ends or minor scratches.
- Adjustable Shelves: Insert shelf pins into the tower sides and slide in your adjustable shelves.
Pro-Tips: From The Experts
