Q. Can the Shelf Kit be free-floating on either or both sides?

A. Yes, the Shelf Kit can be free-floating by using the provided curved wooden angle brackets. These angle brackets provide support to the shelf if not installed into a side wall.

Q. Can the Shelf Kit be cut-to-size?
A. Yes, the Shelf Kit can be cut-to-size by using a fine-toothed saw blade. For best results, we recommend using a table saw or sliding miter saw.

Q. Can Garment Bars be added to the Shelf Kit?
A. Yes, Garment Bars can be added to the Shelf Kit. Our 4ft. and 6ft. Bar Kits are sold with all the hardware needed to install directly to the Shelf Kit.

Q. Can Shelf Kits be installed in a 90-degree corner?
A. Yes, Shelf Kits can be installed in a corner at a 90-degree angle. One shelf (A) is installed onto the back wall and side wall. The other shelf (B) is installed to the perpendicular wall and secured to the front of shelf (A) using the included Shelf End Hardware.

Q. Can Shelf Kits be installed on brick or plaster?
A. John Louis Home shelving is designed for installation on current specifications and methods of wood studding and drywall. While the Shelf Kit can be installed on alternative wall types, custom wall preparation and hardware will be required.

Q. What if my cut measurement is in the middle of a shelf slat?
A. There are two solutions to this. One – The size of the included Shelf End Hardware allows for short cuts; therefore, you may cut at the nearest slat side of your measurement. Two – Make your cut using a fine-toothed straight handsaw and place the cut slat side facing the sidewall.

Q. What accessories can be added to the Shelf Kit?
A. Our Pull-Out Pant Rack and Under-Mount Belt & Tie Rack can be installed directly under the Shelf Kit.

Q. Will the solid wood warp?
A. To prevent warping, John Louis Home uses only quality kiln-dried wood. The wood is treated and the multi-layered finish process blocks moisture intake. As with any natural product, warping may occur when used in areas that contain overly excessive amounts of moisture.

Excellent Closet System

Once order is placed, prepare your walls because shipping is super fast! I installed 4 John Louis Coset Organizers. “Anybody Can Do It” applied to this woman, age 60, who never used a circular saw before. Bought a handheld Ryobi Circular saw for this project. Made a makeshift saw table with my furniture mover turned upside down. Watched a lot of tutorials, and used my quilting ruler to clamp down a metal guide 1 1/8 inch from my cut line for my particular saw to make beautiful cuts. Sometimes needed a bit of sanding to make the shelf fit. I like edges to meet the hardware so used pieces of shims and caulk for a finished look if needed. I used the tip of backing out a clip from the wall, but only had to do this with 2 clips. I used an inch and half level on my clips before tightening the screws by hand. I did need different drywall anchors than the ones provided for my drywall. Also followed tracing around shelfends in position with a level for proper placement of hardware. One 48” board is provided to make 2 shelves for the tower. I used a smaller drill bit size for pegs so they were snug. I used the tip from johnlouiscanada of placing a screw ( the leftover 1” screws work) in the slot above the shelf bracket to keep it from rocking especially when using the wall anchors for the brackets. A small pilot hole in the middle of the slat 1/2 inch in then hand tightening screw worked perfectly. I can see that different buildings might have different variables to consider when installing, but I’m in new construction so everything fit precisely as engineered. I wanted 15” above the tower so placed at 81” and my long hang at 68” or 69”. I made use of stud placement in configurations. These kits are genius and the hardware and shelving are beautiful!

custom closet quality

These shelve systems take a bit of time to install--I bought 3 sets plus some extras for my closet but once installed they are very really looking and very sturdy. The wood finish is smooth and expensive looking. The hanging rods are wonderful--hangars slide very easily over the brackets.
